Quarry Living
Embedded into the remnants of a disused quarry, this collection of homes forms a community of walkers, creators, and environmentalists who find solace in the tranquillity of this rugged landscape.
The contrast between the soft flowing mountains and the brutal man-made quarry-scape sets the tone for the project and the design emerges from the grain and strata of the exposed rock face.
The tiny house community is challenged to re-inhabit and re-purpose the hard landscape and by doing so, re-introduce life and softness again. Roofs are inhabited with native flora and space around the houses is re-purposed for food production and recreational uses.
Regenerative solutions are at the hearth of this community. Integrated passive systems, and locally sourced materials offer an opportunity to live off-grid, in communion with nature. The mountains provide an abundance of fresh water, which is harvested for drinking, cooking, agriculture and as a source of electrical energy.
